As the largest inland marina in Europe, Mercia Marina has a host of facilities onsite within a few minutes’ walk of the lodge.  These include cafes, restaurants, a deli, general store, clothing and gift shops. You can watch the colourful boats and the wildlife, stop for a coffee and cake, or treat yourself to a glass of wine.  There are walks within the Marina grounds with ideal spots to sit, relax and watch the world go by.  If you fancy boating along the canal, the Mercia Swan runs trips in summer.

For wildlife lovers, Willington Wetlands nature reserve is just the other side of the village and is home to newly introduced beavers (and their kits, born in 2021) as well as many species of birds.

Rosemary Lodge is the perfect base to explore all that the local area has to offer. We provide maps of walks in the local area for your use including along the Trent & Mersey Canal and in the National Forest. Also within easy reach are the market towns of Bakewell, Belper and Ashbourne, the world famous Potteries including Denby Pottery Village and the many nearby National Trust properties.

We like to promote local artists and other makers and you’ll find a selection of their work inside the Lodge.

Once your booking is confirmed, you’ll receive our digital visitor guide using the award-winning TouchStay app to use on your phone so you can have it with you during your visit. The guide gives detailed information about the lodge, the Mercia Marina shops (visitors receive a discount on purchases), local eateries and activities and places to visit.
