One of most fascinating aspects of the marina now, as well as over the past 6+ years, is how the flora and fauna have thrived. This success is recognised by Mercia having been awarded Gold Conservation Awards by the renowned conservationist David Bellamy for the past 4 years.

BBC East Midlands heard of this and subjected Jules to an interview, the results of which can be seen on Youtube by following this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jglxAGg0l6k. Furthermore, our new website has a wildlife area and there is a dedicated website run by volunteers at http://www.merciamarinawildlife.co.uk.

The new walking leaflet produced in conjunction with Findern Footpath Group has proven a massive success which means the wildlife will be watched a lot more.

A lot of the work done within the marina and, for instance, in the ponds opposite the canal entrance is by volunteers. If you fancy volunteering, please let Louise know by emailing her on merciavolunteers@hotmail.com. She will let you know the dates and what is planned.
