So what makes a great market? You don’t have to travel to the likes of London these days to find something completely different and exciting that you just have to have or experience. Want that seaside town feel, delightful foods, gifts, trinkets, crafts and souvenirs? How about that with a flake on top? (Ice cream is of course optional). Well Mercia Marina makes a day of it if a quality true craft and makers market is what you want to experience.
The ease of this location means for a hassle free outing to this regular waterside market experience. There is a blend of foods, bakery items, real ales, deluxe coffees and many handmade and craft items. Enjoy shopping, eating and then just sitting and listening to your favourite covers being performed by local musicians. How very!
Best of all is the atmosphere, a bustle of colourful boats, vibrant spices and sounds and passionate makers all to willing to share what they do.Simply brilliant. If this wets your appetite The Mercia Marina Makers Market is on the last Sunday of every month and entry and parking is free, It does get busy after 12pm so get there early and park up to make a real day of it as the market is on from 10 top 4.30pm.
The kind of stalls you can expect vary in speciality but not in quality. The likes of Spondon Bakery who were on ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery, are aregular and are always working hard to supply the many visitors with delicious bakery items, all so very tempting. Wooden Dreams who make
furniture which is hand made using local reclaimed wood have been on a few occasions and more or less sold out with their interesting twist of furniture design. You will find authors, artists, producers and even upholstery, furniture, foods, real ales, wines and coffee with a kick served up by the entertaining Adrian Rose of Azorieblue who produce coffee that’s smoother than a tiger in a tuxedo!
