Mercia Marina is one of the hottest must-visit destinations in Derbyshire right now – and you could make it more than an occasional treat if you bought your own holiday home there.
The Willington venue, which is Europe's largest inland marina, has 28 waterside holiday lodges and planning permission for another 32 has been approved.
And the thought of having a permanent place to enjoy the calming, rural waterside location must be tempting for many who flock to the leisure venue in their droves - particularly on a sunny day. The marina says it is currently attracting around 800,000 visitors a year.
Right now, there is rare opportunity to buy an existing lodge at a bargain price. A three-bedroomed Nordic Lodge is being sold by its owners and is available for immediate purchase for £140,000.
The lodge has level access for the less mobile, a wet room and wrap around veranda. And that £140,000 price tag offers a huge saving when compared to a new lodge of the same size which would be £174,100 – a saving of £34,100.
"The £140,000 lodge is being sold by its owners who like the area so much they have bought a permanent home in Willington," says Tony Preston, marketing manager for the Mercia Marina lodges. It is an extremely rare bargain for buyers to purchase a lodge at such a good price."
To secure a lodge, you have to put down a deposit of £5,000 followed by 10% of the total price within two weeks. The balance is then paid before you take possession of your lodge.
Tony says many of the current lodge owners are also boat owners who like to enjoy all the facilities of the marina with its shops, bar, cafes and social activities.
"For some the lodges are purely a holiday home," said Tony. "Other people use the lodges occasionally for themselves and let them out for holidays the rest of the time to get a return on their income."
Rental properties are managed on behalf of their owners.
"For many people coming to Mercia Marina is the closest feeling they can get to being at the seaside without having to travel for miles," said Tony. "It's easy access, the marina is beautiful and there is lots to see and do."
If owning a lodge outright is not within your reach you can also book a Mercia Marina holiday or short break starting from £347 for a three-bedroomed lodge. To find out more, visit https://merciamarina.co.uk/holiday-lodges/booki...
